Pacifica from Milagra Ridge

Gouache on Paper, 5 x 8 in

Plein Air: Pacifica, California

At the top of Milagra Ridge is a defunct coastal defense site. Starting with Battery 244, a coastal artillery battery in WWII, the site then became part of the Nike surface-to-air system as SF-51L to defend against nuclear attack during the Cold War. As a defense site, it has an excellent vantage point over the Pacific Coast, which lends itself to landscape painting well.
